MANTECA INNOVATIONS
The Manteca Innovations company is off and running.
The Independent Study program is for students in grades 9 through 12 of the Manteca Unified School District.
Formerly known as BE. A program of study that integrates academic knowledge with technical occupational knowledge, Tech, Manteca Innovations is part of the district's Careers Technical Education pathway.
Principal Brad Harrison oversees CTE programs in the district office complex and Lathrop High that have been in the works since spring. Students at the latter institution can take industrial maintenance classes, welding and fabrication classes, fire science courses, and first responder courses.
We've finally ironed out the kinks in the MUSD restructure, he said.
It has been discussed with Ryan Costa that the local economy is in need of warehouse workers other than entry-level positions and high-paying jobs.
The company is seeking people who can repair hydraulic systems or electro-pneumatic systems. It is imperative to hire someone who is a jack of all trades.
Manteca Innovations provides the knowledge and skills required for that, along with some of the latest technology in machinery and expert instructors.
Angela Ott is a teacher and a longtime EMT for Manteca District Ambulance. She had her Intro to Fire Science students do turnout drills on this day that require them to change quickly into their fire gear.
The feat was accomplished by Luke Abreu from Sierra High School in 39 seconds.
According to Ott, an emergency situation calls for quick action.
A combat physician by training, James Ward has a background in emergency medicine. About 10 years ago, he came to MUSD looking for P.E. He was qualified to teach emergency medicine but not for his job.
Students from Sierra, Manteca High, East Union, Weston Ranch, and Lathrop High can take the National Registry Test for EMTs before they graduate.
There is a close relationship between Costa and Mike Patterson's classes.
Costa has been an instructor at MUSD for more than 15 years. His course of study here is industrial maintenance and industrial manufacturing.
'We've structured our resources and money around this program,' he said.
The Smart Automation Certification Alliance offers occupational credentials and micro-credentials for students to earn through the Electrical Wiring, Applied Electrical Control, and AC / DC Electrical training programs, all of which are delivered by Amatrols interactive, innovative training systems.
As well as advanced manufacturing classes, Costa offers courses in laser and plasma cutting tables, as well as 3-D printing.
The BE.Tech classes I teach at the district draw from Ryan's program, said Patterson.
The equipment he uses in his welding and fabrication classes is in the cutting-edge.
Patterson, who runs a full machine shop at LHS, appreciated CBC Steel Buildings of Lathrop's $40000 donation.
Harrison was equally grateful.
State-of-the-art is what this shop offers. He said our kids are lucky to be able to attend such a school.
As part of the Manteca Innovations career path, students receive further training in job-skills through advanced classes at Modesto Junior College, Delta College, or the school of their choice.
A bridge has been established between Harrison, Costa and the Manteca Adult School along with local junior colleges.
