Water supply for a Manteca elementary school

With the help of a $21253 grant from the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund of the State Water Resources Control Board, Nile Garden Elementary School will be able to receive safe water thanks to a merger with the City of Manteca's public water system.

As part of their Construction Financing Agreement, Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) is providing technical assistance to the City of Manteca to help them comply with their building financing agreement. It facilitates the submission of deliverables, assists with invoicing and reporting quarterly, and provides community outreach to educate school water users. Recently, Wood Rogers was contracted by the city as the engineering firm for the project with RCAC's assistance.

Furthermore, $47 million has been allocated from the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund, and $300,000 has been allocated from the Proposition 84 grant program of the Department of Water Resources. The the City is able to construct approximately 6500 feet of transmission lines, a new groundwater well, and an arsenic treatment system. As a result of this grant, the City will provide public updates on the project to the community.

In Manteca, Nile Garden Elementary School relies on groundwater wells for its drinking water. In addition to groundwater contamination, the well has repeatedly violated maximum contamination levels for arsenic and 12,3-trichloropropane. As a result of this project, the school and students at the school will have access to safe drinking water.

Manteca Unified School District and the city have both emphasized the importance of this project, and are eager to work with partners to ensure its success.

A representative of Manteca Unified School District said the district is looking forward to implementing the Nile Garden Well 30 Project. In order to maintain the campus's operations, this project will establish a potable water source. As well as vital to the continued modernization of the school, this project is essential to the health of the community. State and municipal partners are valuable partners in the project's continued development.

Elba Mijango, Associate Engineer from City of Manteca, also recognizes the value of this project: The City of Manteca is happy to be working with the State Water Board and the Manteca Unified School District on the Nile Garden Well 30 Project because it will provide drinking water to Nile Garden Elementary School and add another water source to our community. Our staff is looking forward to the continued collaboration and work needed to complete this project.
